Pittsfield budgets project 19 percent tax increase for 2026

NH PITTSFIELD — Pittsfield Budget Committee reviews 2026 town and school budgets projecting 19 percent tax increase. The combined proposals request $14.1 million, up from $11.8 million in the prior year, with the increase driven by baseline operational costs, $680,000 in capital improvements, and $900,000 in one-time school warrant articles covering a $633,000 district deficit and $248,000 in high school costs. Budget Committee Chairman Dan Greene expressed concern about the burden on residents, while School Board Member Sandra Adams defended the budgets as fiscally responsible.
The committee scheduled a public hearing for January 14 and will finalize its recommendations at a meeting on January 21.
